3 Things I'm Loving, Reading, Watching or Doing
Good read on why we may want to stop pushing kids to chase a “dream school.”
It reminds us that finding the right fit often matters more than chasing prestige.
With the NFL making safety changes like the new kick-off rule, it’s curious why high school and colleges haven’t followed suit. This article explores some of the potential reasoning.
Media Literacy: Sora (Video)
I sent this to my kids last week. It’s a short, fascinating look at how AI tools like Sora are transforming creativity, media, and our ability to discern what’s real. Sure, 500-lb pole vaulters are easy to spot as fake, but the real danger comes when life-like videos use your image.

1 Big Dad Idea
Marital Sacrifice
Last weekend, I was back in Ohio celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary with my seven siblings, extended family, and a house full of memories. Highlights included wandering the museum of oddities that is our childhood home, reconnecting with people I hadn't seen in years, and watching my mom embody peak Midwestern "don't cause a fuss" energy when she didn't send an invite to a cousin because she didn't want her to feel bad about declining.😂 I even stepped inside the Catholic church I went to for elementary school armed with my brother's "Catholic Mass Bangers" Spotify playlist should we need to sing. Hilariously, we still knew every word.
It was just an all-around stellar weekend.
I could write a book about my parents raising eight kids on a custodian's salary, but the thing that stood out most was the sacrifice it takes to raise a family and stay married for half a century.
Between the laughter and the stories, this sacrifice became clear. It's the daily decision to put others first. It costs something. Sometimes it's your freedom, sometimes your health, and other times it's simply your desire for something new. To do it well, as my parents have, you have to learn to prioritize others again and again because at its core, sacrifice is what marriage, and parenthood, demand of us.
It's not glamorous. It doesn't make it to Instagram. But it's the glue that holds families together. And for our family of 10, I'm thankful it was Maximum Strength Gorilla Glue.
